Composers & Vocalists – Defining Voices

Turning Point Ensemble announces Composers and Vocalists for Defining Voices: Phase Two

This past autumn, Turning Point Ensemble launched Defining Voices, a two-phase composition mentoring program exploring the art of writing for voice and instruments. Phase one brought together composers from BC and beyond for workshops led by renowned soprano Robyn Driedger-Klassen, composer Edward Top, and members of TPE.

Now, TPE is pleased to announce the participants selected for phase two, an intensive mentorship experience focused on the creation of new work to be shared with TPE audiences in upcoming seasons.

What’s Next

About Defining Voices

Nurturing emerging composers has been a meaningful priority throughout TPE’s over 20 years of history. Signature programs have included Creating Composers (presented at schools throughout Metro Vancouver), What’s the Score! orchestration workshops (held in Smithers, Prince George, and Terrace), and ongoing collaborations with Vancouver Pro Musica at the Sonic Boom Festival. To date, TPE has worked with over 200 young and pre-professional composers reading, performing, and championing their new work.

Defining Voices is TPE’s newest effort to bridge the composition studio and the concert hall, with a specific focus on the craft of writing for voice with instruments.

TPE gratefully acknowledges the financial support of the BC Government, the Deux Mille Foundation, and the valued partnership of Vancouver Pro Musica and Vancouver Opera, who are generously hosting these workshops.
