SFU Woodward's

Join Turning Point Ensemble for a special celebration commemorating our 20th anniversary including highlights of the past and new works pointing to the future. Looking ahead, Turning Point Ensemble premieres a new double concerto for trombonist Jeremy Berkman, double bassist David Brown and TPE composed by Farangis Nurulla-Khoja — Betwixt and Between. We are also delighted to participate in Société de musique contemporaine du Québec’s year-long homage to the Montreal composer Sandeep Bhagwati, with a unique performance of segments of his epic modular composition RASAS. Looking back, we will play two works that were on our very first concert in 2003 — Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece Sunrise of the Planetary Dream Collector, and Artistic Director Owen Underhill’s The Widening Gyre.

Sunrise of the Planetary Dreamer (1980) by Terry Riley

RASAS (2000 – ongoing) by Sandeep Bhagwati

The Widening Gyre (2002) by Owen Underhill

Betwixt and Between or rivière assoiffée (2024) by Farangis Nurulla-Khoja

This concert is a co-presentation with SFU Woodward’s Cultural Programs.
