The Turning Point Ensemble presents an album of “sonic snapshots” of Vancouver’s musical traditions – a meeting and intermingling of east and west with our guests, The Orchid Ensemble (Lan Tung & Jonathan Bernard) and soprano Heather Pawsey (solo).

Vancouver Snapshots 125 will bring to life the pre-modern, modern and post-modern through musical snapshots of Vancouver’s past to the present day. With the help of the Orchid Ensemble, the vibrant Chinese cultural experience in Vancouver will be revealed, along with music of Vancouver composers representing the past 125 years including Jean Coulthard, Robert Barclay, Arthur Benjamin, Barbara Pentland, Barry Truax, Alexina Louie, Stephen Chatman, R. Murray Schafer, Jocelyn Morlock, Zhuo Rhi-Shi and others.

Free Vancouver 125 Symposium with David Gordon Duke

David Gordon Duke – resident Vancouver historian – chairs an enlightening and engaging afternoon symposium with guest panelists William Bruneau, Janet Danielson and George Laverock. Vancouver’s earliest cultural influences and contributions to concert music will be explored. Little known facts and connections over the past century of Vancouver’s life in music will be revealed. Students, young and old, of history, culture, art, music, design and ‘Vancouver society’ will find something to delight them here. Come and meet our panelists.
