JUMPING FOR JOY ON CBC

With the Canadian Broadcoast Corporation re-imagining itself through wrenching budgetary cuts and the challenges of new internet media opportunities, it has become increasingly rare for new music by Canadian composers for large ensemble to actually be recorded and broadcast on CBC Radio Two. As we all come to grasp the best alternate ways to distribute our recorded performances (web-radio? podcasts?) – it is significant that the two commissioned works on our recent Jump for Joy program will be broadcast nationally this month on CBC Radio Two’s The Signal – with June 23rd as the broadcast date!! So, if you were fortunate to hear live the wonderful new works by Dave Douglas (Sandhill) and BC’s Brad Turner (Seven Scenes from A Childhood) – you can hear how wonderfully Will Howie (recording engineer) and Denise Ball (Recording Producer) captured the music.

If you were unable to attend live – these are two works that were so well received by the live audience, and really embraced by the ensemble. Later in the fall there will be a second broadcast on CBC Radio Two In Concert program with host Bill Richardson.

We are about to announce our 2012/13 season, but we do really appreciate that CBC will highight these compositions and performances so soon after their premiere and within our current season!
More news to follow – but as they say in radio — Stay Tuned : )
