Two Organizations Dancing, Playing, Breathing together!
Opening night of our shared anniversary collaboration – and it was so wonderful to see so many TPE subscribers in the audience! All the ensemble members, staff, and board put so much of their time and talents into interdisciplinary projects such as this – and as much as we’re so excited to again share our music-making it is also our partners’ work – the incredible Ballet BC dancers and creative and production team that we are so excited to also showcase. As much as I am enjoying watching the talented dancers of Ballet BC, I also love watching the looks of admiration on the faces of our ensemble as they imagine the commitment on top of talent the dancers are expressing. Ballet BC, in turn, is so generous in their appreciation of our presence – so rare a live-music and dance interweaving for them too (obviously). On opening night we did get a couple queries as to why TPE is enhanced rather than play purely acoustic – and one thing you will hear at this event is how loudly the dancers are breathing (they are working SO hard!) – and as such they need to hear the music and their musical cues quite loudly above the natural sound they make! Then to balance the stage’s monitor sound they need, we have to project our sound into the hall louder than that to avoid an echo. Will Howie, our sound engineer, is doing a fabulous job getting as close to the quality of acoustic sound as is possible.
